George Ranch High School Back-to-School Guide for 2026–2027

A practical guide for Longhorn families | August 2026

The last quiet mornings are disappearing, backpacks are reappearing from wherever teenagers abandon them in May, and parents throughout the George Ranch community are asking the same question: “Are we actually ready for school to start?”

The honest answer is probably “almost.”

Lamar Consolidated ISD begins the 2026–2027 school year on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. That means George Ranch High School students have just enough time to reset their sleep schedules, locate their student IDs and remember that 6:30 in the morning is a real time—not simply a rumor adults use to frighten teenagers.

Whether your student is an incoming freshman, a returning Longhorn or a senior preparing for one final trip around the Ranch, here is what George Ranch families need to know before the first bell rings.

First Day of School: August 11

The first day of school for Lamar CISD students is Tuesday, August 11.

George Ranch High School is located at 8181 FM 762 Road in Richmond. The school’s main telephone number is 832-223-4200.

If this is your family’s first year at George Ranch, allow extra time that first morning. Actually, allow extra time even if this is your fourth year. The combination of buses, new drivers, parents making last-second drop-off decisions and teenagers staring at their phones while walking through parking lots can turn an ordinary arrival into a small transportation documentary.

The traffic usually becomes more predictable once everyone remembers where they are supposed to go.

Students should also begin restoring a reasonably normal sleep schedule before August 11. Going directly from a summer bedtime of 1:47 a.m. to a school-morning alarm is less of a transition and more of a medical experiment.

Did You Complete the Transportation Form?

This is the most time-sensitive information in the entire article.

Lamar CISD required parents and guardians to complete a Student Transportation Form confirming each student’s primary method of transportation. The deadline for students to receive bus transportation beginning on the first day of school was August 2.

Families who submitted the form by that deadline should check their bus information and confirm the assigned route, pickup location and scheduled time before August 11.

If your family missed the August 2 deadline, do not assume your student will automatically have a bus on the first day. According to district information, forms submitted from August 3 through August 21 will result in transportation beginning on August 24.

That creates a nearly two-week transportation gap, which is not the kind of back-to-school surprise anyone wants before coffee.

Parents who missed the deadline should complete the form as quickly as possible and make alternate transportation arrangements for the opening days of school. Transportation information is available through the district’s website and the “Find My Bus” resource linked from the George Ranch website.

Registering a New George Ranch Student

New students entering grades 9 through 12 must register through their zoned high school rather than the district’s central registration process used for younger students.

For students zoned to George Ranch High School, families should contact the campus directly for registration instructions.

Before assuming George Ranch is the correct campus, use Lamar CISD’s School Finder and enter the student’s home address, or check Stonecreek Estates’ own Schools page for the campuses currently serving our neighborhood. A Richmond mailing address does not automatically mean a student is zoned to George Ranch. Around here, a Richmond address can cover enough territory to make a cartographer sigh deeply.

Lamar CISD requires several documents for enrollment, including:

• A parent or guardian’s photo identification

• Proof of the family’s address

• The student’s birth certificate or passport

• Immunization records

• Previous school records

• A current high school transcript for students entering grades 10 through 12

• Applicable ARD, 504 or LPAC documentation

Acceptable proof of address may include a utility bill, lease, mortgage statement, warranty deed, closing disclosure or a current Fort Bend Central Appraisal District statement showing a homestead exemption.

Families moving into a newly constructed home may discover that their address does not yet appear in the district’s School Finder. In that situation, Lamar CISD recommends contacting Enrollment Management at 832-223-0424.

Check Skyward, ParentSquare and ClassLink

There are three names George Ranch families will hear repeatedly during the school year: Skyward, ParentSquare and ClassLink.

Skyward Family Access allows parents to review grades, attendance, assignments and other student information. Before school starts, parents should confirm that their contact information is correct. An outdated phone number or email address can cause important campus announcements to float into the digital wilderness.

ParentSquare is used for district and campus communication. Families should make sure they can receive messages and notifications before the first week becomes busy.

Students use ClassLink to reach many of their academic programs through one login. Returning students may already be familiar with it. New students will become familiar with it quickly—probably immediately after asking a parent where their password is.

Bookmarking these resources now is much easier than trying to find them at 10:30 p.m. when an assignment is due at 11:59.

Schedules, Courses and the First-Week Shuffle

Student schedules can sometimes change as enrollment numbers settle and counselors address course-placement issues. A schedule displayed before the first day may not necessarily be the final version a student follows throughout the semester.

Students should review their schedules carefully and make sure they understand where each class is located. Incoming freshmen may want to study the campus layout in advance. George Ranch is not a tiny school where every classroom sits within fifteen steps of the front office.

If a student notices a serious scheduling problem—such as a missing required course, a duplicated class or placement in a course already completed—the student should follow the school’s schedule-change procedure.

Wanting a different lunch period because a friend has third lunch is generally not considered an academic emergency. Teenagers may disagree, passionately and with supporting witnesses, but counselors tend to remain unmoved.

Lamar CISD’s secondary course catalog is available through the district’s back-to-school resources. Families with questions about graduation requirements, endorsements, advanced coursework or electives should consult the catalog and contact the student’s counselor when necessary.

What School Supplies Do High School Students Need?

Lamar CISD publishes standard supply lists for elementary, middle and junior high students, but high school supplies are often determined by individual courses and teachers.

For the opening days, George Ranch students should have basic essentials:

• A backpack

• Pens and pencils

• Notebook paper

• A binder or folders

• A notebook for each academic subject

• A charged district-approved device, when applicable

• A reusable water bottle

• Any materials already requested by a teacher, coach or program director

There is no need to purchase half of an office-supply store before students receive instructions. An engineering class, art course, science lab and English class will not necessarily require the same materials.

Start with the basics, then purchase course-specific supplies after teachers explain what students will actually use. This reduces the chance of buying twelve color-coded folders that spend the entire year untouched in the back of a closet.

Review the Dress Code Before Shopping

Lamar CISD provides a districtwide dress code through its back-to-school page and student handbook resources.

Families should review the current rules before making major school-clothing purchases. Do not rely on what was permitted several years ago, what a cousin remembers or what one person announced with great confidence in a neighborhood Facebook group.

Pay particular attention to rules involving garment length, coverage, messages or graphics, head coverings, footwear and clothing that may interfere with safety or instruction.

The goal is not to turn back-to-school shopping into a legal seminar. It is simply better to identify potential problems at home than at the front office on Tuesday morning.

Student Parking at George Ranch

Students who plan to drive to George Ranch must obtain a campus parking permit before parking on school property.

The George Ranch student-and-parent resource page specifically reminds families that students need a parking pass before parking “at the Ranch.” Families should follow the current campus procedure and make sure all required documentation and fees are completed.

A driver’s license and access to a vehicle do not automatically create a parking space. School parking lots have rules, assigned areas and enough inexperienced drivers to keep everyone humble.

Student drivers should leave home early during the opening week. They should also review where they are allowed to enter, park and exit. Parents may want to discuss safe driving, phone use and patience before the first day—especially the patience portion.

Athletics, Band, Cheer and Other Activities

Students participating in athletics must complete Lamar CISD’s required participation documents before taking part in tryouts, practices, athletic periods, open gyms, competitions or team travel.

Most participation forms are completed electronically through Rank One. However, the annual physical and medical-history form must be completed separately using the district-approved form. Lamar CISD states that no substitute physical-examination form can be accepted for UIL participation.

Families should not wait until the evening before practice to discover a missing signature. Coaches have many talents, but magically turning incomplete paperwork into complete paperwork is not one of them.

Students involved in band, choir, theater, cheer, drill team, clubs or other organizations should also watch for messages from their directors and sponsors. Many high school activities begin preparing before the academic year officially starts.

School Meals and Lunch Accounts

George Ranch families can manage student meal accounts through SchoolCafé. Parents can use the platform to add money, review transactions and access school-meal information.

It is worth checking the account before August 11, especially if the student is returning to the district. Confirm that the account is accessible and that any necessary applications or payments have been completed.

Students may insist that they can survive the day with an energy drink and one package of crackers discovered in a backpack. This is not a meal plan. It is a cry for help with branding.

Current menus, meal prices, free and reduced-price meal information and dietary-accommodation resources are available through Lamar CISD Child Nutrition.

Seniors: The Class of 2027 Has Its Own Resource Page

This year’s George Ranch seniors—the Class of 2027—have a dedicated campus webpage for graduation and senior-year information.

The page is expected to be updated as dates and details become available. Seniors and their parents should check it throughout the year for information concerning graduation, college and career planning, cap-and-gown orders and senior events.

Senior year has a strange way of moving both slowly and incredibly fast. In August, graduation seems far away. Then someone mentions cap-and-gown orders, college applications begin multiplying and suddenly May is standing at the front door.

Families should avoid depending solely on students to relay every deadline. This is not an insult to the Class of 2027. It is simply a respectful acknowledgment that papers placed in teenage backpacks occasionally enter another dimension.

George Ranch High School Leadership

George Ranch High School is led by Principal Carrie Yanta, a longtime member of the Longhorn community.

According to the campus, Yanta has 21 years of experience in education, including 14 years in Lamar CISD. She has served as a teacher, academic facilitator, assistant principal and associate principal at George Ranch. Her connection to the school is also personal: all three of her children graduated from George Ranch High School.

That kind of continuity matters in a rapidly growing school district. Lamar CISD expects enrollment to exceed 50,000 students during the 2026–2027 school year, and growth across Fort Bend County continues to affect campuses, staffing, transportation and attendance boundaries.

A Final Back-to-School Checklist

Before August 11, George Ranch families should:

• Confirm the student’s registration and school assignment

• Review the student’s schedule when available

• Check Skyward and ParentSquare access

• Verify transportation arrangements

• Obtain a student parking permit if needed

• Review the current dress code

• Purchase basic supplies

• Complete athletic forms and the approved physical

• Check the student’s SchoolCafé account

• Bookmark the George Ranch and Lamar CISD websites

• Begin moving bedtime toward something recognized by civilized society

The beginning of school is always a little chaotic. Shoes disappear, passwords are forgotten and someone inevitably announces at bedtime that a specific supply is required the next morning.

But it is also a fresh beginning.

For incoming freshmen, it is the first chapter of high school. For sophomores and juniors, it is another chance to find their people, try something new and move closer to the goals they are beginning to define. For the Class of 2027, it is the year of lasts: the last first day, the last homecoming and the last time parents can say, “You are not leaving this house dressed like that for school.”
